"Where will our leaf blow??..."

Noah has being learning about Fall in preschool, all about the leafs falling and the wind...

Often his teacher hangs the kids work outside the door for parents to see. Today when I get to school there was a new work and I couldn't help but shade a few tears.

The teacher's page said "Where will our leaf blow..."  and each child colored theirs with fall colors, and the teacher wrote theirs answers; some said "to Kings Island", some said "to the Park"....

Noah's said: "to my Grandpa's house to see him"

He also wrote "Elan" to his best knowledge, if you notice it, there is a L, a E sideways, a N and a A

We all being thinking of you grandpa - each day... all day... Praying and we hope we get to see you soon!!!

40 days Challenge Update

So it's being 30 days since I decided to take the Challenge from Dr. Pete and I must say it has being fun! (well - not the weight part of it)
So far I had 2 visits - The boys had a few more; 3 total, but I'm very comfortable with due to the situations! They even had become advocates and don't want me to drive to fast food not even just for an ice cream! Ben said "Remember mom? Its not healthy? IT's actually bad for you? We can just go to UDF instead" and that day we settled for fruit Popsicles.

Noah still asks often – at least 2 times a week if we can “peease mommy go to Wendy's and have a cheesebuger” it feels like he craves it! Benjamin does just fine. I tried making veggie burger at home, they eat them fine. It's being a very radical but awesome change for my family and I'm SO happy we finally took this step! =)
I'm please with the results!

On the weight – weeelll I haven't seeing much change there yet! My goal was 6 pounds in the 6 wks and all I got so far was 4 and I seem to be pretty stuck where I'm. I do not have motivation to exercise and still – even I'm not eating fast food I do eat way more than I should. Perhaps once this 40 days are over a new goal will be in place and that will be more affective to change my weight; but this far even with no big change I'm still glad my first goal it's being met this far! =)

Finally back

Each day life goes a little back to “normal”. We are getting more used to having Noah around (Did we ever not have him?) and slowly we are getting to know how our new routine is going to be. I have lots of other thinks “more important” to do than post here but somehow this relaxes me… So I’ll take the time to do it since I got a few minutes!

I have so much to catch on, it will take me a few days to get there and I’ll post here as I remember. I want to start thanking everyone for all the help! (Believe me or not, this past Sunday was the first time we cooked dinner, since the baby was born we have had kind friends who brought us meals or came over and cooked for us) Tati, Beth Ann (woman, you are awesome!), Connie, Jessica, Dani, Shannon, Priscilla, Amy, Frances, Cindy, Mae, Lisa (if I forgot your name, PLEASE bare with me, It doesn’t mean what you did wasn’t appreciated is just that I’m still running slow) - THANKS!

A few things I can think of at this time:

* I pumped – Dan offered for me to go take a longer nap – I fed him, then he would feed the baby my milk in a bottle (I could really use a 4 hour nap!) and he would wake me up for the feeding after that. Guess what? Noah did NOT take a bottle! Dan tried 3 diferent nipples and NOTHING! We won’t take a pacifier and he won’t take a bottle as either! I’m *SO* tired! I need to sleep a little!!!!

* Benji is doing so much better with Noah, the thing is now he wants to hold him all the time – problem is he is not very delicate (not that I expected a 18 mo. old to be) but… ya know!

The other day he made it *very* clear for everyone to hear “Maaaaamy,I want food!” He is talking more each day. Quite funny! I’m trying to get my camera out as much as I can.

* Elan came over to visit for 4 days, if flew by. Benji really enjoys his company!

We got a pass to the Children’s museum and went over there last Saturday, the 4 of us, Mike & Kristy (very nice girl – perky perky) and Elan. I don’t think Benji enjoyed as much I thought he would – but again he was having a horrible day!

* Dan hasn’t missed any Bengals game yet. I’m glad I got the season tickets this year even thou we had decided we wouldn’t do it, they have a nice groups for the past few years and he enjoys it so much. The Bengals won the past game again, CP played very well after surgery. They are doing pretty good. Preseason is over; it’ll get more interesting now! I hate Chad Johnson’s new hair! =oP

* Jessica came over this week for the day – those days are much easier as Benji settles with her around. He needs less attention from me when she is around. Last night I went out by myself for the first time and took Benji. It was awesome to spend some quality time with him. I really need to remember that, we need our time. Benji & mommy.

An interesting day – I must make a record of it!

It started very turbulent with very disrespectful boys and naughty attitude. I sure did chose how the day was gonna turn out – and made sure to let them know they must go along with me so this could work for us.

WE were expecting the 365Portrait to come and they never showed up! Great! And only called on the last minute to let us know! =oP

Haley came about 10; Benji had a good time... they ate lunch incredibly well. Tati came for a few hours, with Thomas while Monica was at camp and we had a great time – relaxing and chatting our elbows off.

To top it off – after an awesome dinner dad cooked we headed to KI "just for 1 hour" (I really wanted the boys in bed by 8pm. But it ended up being a "get it all" trip to Ki with all the fixings! Funnel cake & Dippin' Dots ice cream (1st time the boys had both) and a second dinner (not that we needed it – lol) and a funny "80's show – live!" that it was actually very good.

We got to ride at least 4 rides the kids haven't done before, it was very nice! We even got to ride all of us together in the same seat for a few of them.

Noah who does *great* with using the potty at home had 2 accidents at KI this evening (luckily I had 2 extras sets of undies and shorts)

So of course – got home an had a bath – put away the 4 – yes 4 loads of laundry I have done today and I'm about to o to bed and have no dirty dishes! What a day! =)

,

Funny Stuff:

1 We actually got to ride a couple of rides on the "other side" of KI – It's so cool the boys are getting tall enough so we can enjoy some new rides together!

2. Benjamin – after he brushed his teeth said " Mom, you know what? I forgot to "sloss" my teeth! (Yes – he did mean Floss)

3. It was the first time I ever saw a child fall asleep while you are taking them out of the bath! Literally!!! I got the towel around him, he was laughing AWAKE while we were talking about the whole "sloosing the teeth thing" – got to the bedroom, just next door to the bathroom, went to dry him and WHAT? He is asleep!

4. At Ki – I saw a Chipmunk steeling food from a guy's hand! Is family didn't see – they were just sitting next to him, the only ones that saw I think it was me and him – it was HILARIOUS!

There were a couple more things that were so funny too but of course – I'm brain dead right now and can't remember!

Good night you all! =))

Highlights of the day! =)

We had a tornado watch today - we did go to the basement for about 30 minutes. Damage was reported as close as Loveland. But everyone/everything seems to be ok.

Benji went Rock climbind for Isaac's birthday (it was so great - Benji has being asking to do it for a long time now)

I got a pedicure! =)

And he is 4...

Benji had a birthday a few weeks ago – we were still in Brasil – no one really were in the mood for a party, dad was in the hospital (b4 surgery) so we had a cake and just a couple friends over. He didn’t notice everyone had their minds somewhere else – which is good – and had a great time.

Benji was not allowed in Vovo Celso’s room at the hospital but since it was his birthday they got my dad on a wheel chair out to the hallway and they had a nice visit. Benji was sad to see vovo on his IV and being praying constantly that he feels better soon!

In Brasil is not easy to find donuts and when we do (Wal-Mart has them) they are awful! So I made homemade donuts for Benji – usually I just make little donut balls and they are yummie and cute – this time – since it was his birthday I tried making the traditional shaped donuts and it didn’t look very nice but it tasted very awesome! =)

In Cincinnati we had a cake before we left back in November – since Julio was moving to Panama, so these will be it for his 4th birthday celebration. The worst ever I ever done for him, the cheapest and still the one I think he enjoyed the most – go figure!
Cincinnati Birthday Party - Back in November (Not that you can really call it a party - we just had a cake a night during the week...)

Dad

Dad had surgery on his back today and is on ICU - Sounds like everything went well, except now his blood pressure is a little high

Waiting for a miracle and another one happened...

So, from the beginning…

You may have read that 2.5 yrs ago when I was about to have Noah my dad was diagnosed with Colon cancer. He had 20 inches of his colon removed right the way and started chemo. Not too long after that they detected spots on his liver. The day of his surgery for that the Drs couldn’t find anything. We got our first miracle! =)
A year goes by and his lungs had a few spots – little but lots of them. The problem was that this made this cancer not operable this time. So lots and lots of chemo – changed medication, this time his hair fell off – he had different side effects. After 6 months of chemo his one big spot on the lung had shrunk however he had quite a few new little ones.

When we got in Brasil last December my dad was complaining of back pain, but since he works caring boxes up and down all day long we thought that this was the reason. He went to a back Dr. who prescribed physical therapy. He good and bad days… until last week, on Sunday it was bad – that night he never slept, around 5 am we took him to the E.R. where he had shots of morphine but still felt lots of pain.
He did a ton of test and since the pain never stopped. On Wednesday he took all test results he had to his oncologist, no appointment – just showed up there and waited until the guy saw him, and from his office he sent dad straight to the hospital, to wait for surgery.

We are waiting on a specialist – cause his Dr. that did his colon surgery can’t do any neurosurgery, so we are waiting on this new Doc. We being waiting since Wednesday; and I guess this new doc is the very best out there.
I don’t believe anything will happen until Monday or Tuesday. In the mean time dad is still at the hospital, either in a lot of pain or VERY medicated.
We go see him every day, the boys have being there, my grandma – his mom came from another state and we are here, praying and waiting.

I also talked to my grandpa for the first time ever - for me this was a miracle alone – (my dad's dad) My grandpa left my grandma when my dad was only 2 and they only got together maybe a half dozen times their whole life. This has being an amazing change for all of us. I never met Grandpa Jose but we talked on the phone twice yesterday.
It's being VERY important to my dad to reconect after 50 something years.
There are quite a load of mixed feelings. Sad for dad, happy for grandpa – happy to see dad without any pain but worried about how groggy he is…
My mom is a pile of worry – her bp is going crazy and I’ll be leaving back to Cincinnati in 3 days... and for sure is not going to be easy.

We are waiting on a miracle.

Random photos from last week...

Last week we spent a lot of time with our extended family. Friday we had lunch and spent the rest of the day at cousins house. Last weekend too...
Dan was so impressed with how happy people are around here. Simple and VERY happy life! =)

We also spent a whole day at a market here in downtown Curitiba - like a farmers market where we found all kinds of fresh food. We got a aloe vera and a lavendar plant to Vovoh Fatima and lots of yummie food.

* Our hairy cousin João; such a happy baby!

* Boys looking for puppies under the car! (I can't make this pic turn around the right way - not sure why!)

* Just being himself - always happy and easy going Noah Bird

* His new favorite way to watch TV

Benji & Noah had so much fun with cousins Luiz & Baby João
* Ben & Luiz Gustavo - they are so much alike - it's fun to watch!

* Playing their violão - hours and hours of music every day! (pay attention to the knees - both boys with booboos on the right knee!)

* In the way back from Luiz's house they all crashed! Including Vovoh Celso

The Gs at Caiobá beach

We went to the beach this weekend and overall it was great! The boys absolutely loved – Benji had a blast, Noah was not so sure at first but of course after all he wasn’t happy to leave. We were so lucky to get the greatest weather (maybe even a little too much sun for Dan & I). I can say everything was perfect and the boys will sure have the best memories of their first time at the beach.
The waves were a little too strong in my opinion – I felt down twice and busted out the biggest laugh ever!!! The ocean is awesome – the most amazing place ever! But to be honest I’m happier at the pool (at least when it comes to going with my kids) – The biggest sand box in the world it’s NOT a happy place for me (again – at least not with small kids) I can’t understand today how my parents ever did with me and my sister, little - for the whole summer or weeks at the time at the beach.
Salt – Sand – Sun isn’t a good combination to me at this time of my life.
I’m SUCH a pool person! LOL (Funny how things can change easily) And I sure was a bitch at the beach (not to my family – but to everyone else who helped to make my life harder)
Well-I must get it out of my chest – that people that doesn’t have kids should never make plans for people that does. Also – if someone wants to do something nice for you – first this person should make sure you want that! Don’t tell someone to “make yourself home” when you are imposing 600 rules and you want people to do things your way – at your time! Grrrr!
Phewwww! I sure feel much better….
But going back to talking about the good parts of it – I must say Benji made the coolest friend; Luigi, and his mom was very cool too. Also - as usual Kadu, Guga &Claudia were so helpful with the kids. Kadu I must say it’s a pretty cool friend. =)
I’m sure Caco got the coolest pics but these are the only ones I have on my camera to share right now:

* Dan & I

* Noah bird

* Noah bird again - always with his sunglasses

* Benji & my dad having all kinds of fun

* Caiobá

Family goodies you can only find in Brazil...

Vovoh reading bedtime stories...

Vovo Celso horse - (Go figure all of his back pains!)

ESFIHAAAAAAA!! Yummmie! The kids helped prepare it! =)

Bisneto de peixe so pode ser peixe!

Like we say in Brasil - "A fish's kids can only be fish!" or like you guys say in America - The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree....

My grandpa was from the North of Brasil - where they eat "farina" with EVERYTHING! (farinha is a type of flour - now usually seasoned - I think it's very yummie) and people from North of Brasil - we joke that specially the Baianos - People born in Bahia love farinha!

So do my kids - the greatgrandkids of Mr. Lidio love the thing! He would be so proud! (He passed away when Benji was 3 months older - a week after meeting Benji for the first time and having a wonderful week together)

Another brazilian thing - speedos! LOL

Funny or sad?

My sister and her bff (since pre-school) K are (seriously) playing a game “Guess what Noah is saying”

LOL

Quick Update

Noah’s speech seems to be developing very well, he is just like a parrot and repeats whatever we say, English or Portuguese. He absolutely surprised me with the amount of words he’s added to his vocabulary. I can’t remember if he did this before or not, but he’s doing somersaults unassisted. Also, his eating schedule is great! He’ll eat everything and anything you put on his plate. He will walk by the fruit basket and grab a banana or any other fruit. He’s so cute, everything he’s eating, if it falls on the floor, he’ll put it aside and say: “Give to it ‘Fee – aw – na’ (Fiona, my sister’s dog)”.

I’m afraid of spoiling by saying it, but he’s sleeping very well through the night and he did great without his dad (they are so attached). I think somehow he transferred his attachment from dad to Tia Claudia, but still loves to see daddy on the computer and every time I’m on the phone he’ll ask to talk to daddy.

Benjamin was extremely adaptable with all the changes but yesterday woke up crying saying he missed his house and his daddy.
He’s on “rehab” when it comes to chicken nuggets; he’s gone without it for 2 or 3 weeks now. I can also mention but not explain how much he’s been dancing!!! Every song he listens to he’ll start moving and even brake dancing! Haha SO cute!
He loves to take showers and play in the pool, tia Claudia showed him how to blow bubbles in the water so it won’t come into his nose, and he’s been using the technique even in the shower. He’s been sleeping with Tia Claudia, no diapers on and no wet bed!
His vocabulary is also improving a bunch. He surprises us with full sentences in Portuguese, like the other day he said to my dad “Não tem mais” (Meaning there are no more tracks left– for them to build a track for the trains) and other things – pretty cool.

Funny is how so quickly he realized that most people here just don’t understand English and he teaches them! Always talking slow, using sign language or pointing! Way too cool!

I have a ton of pictures but my mom is “jealous” of the computer and won’t let me spend much time online, so I can't pst them =oP! She believes that I can forget about blogging and other stuff I do online while I’m here cause she doesn’t want to waist a minute!
IT’s so funny how she and I get into little fights daily but I just can’t imagine my life without her! The way she treats my kids and let them comfortable, it’s amazing! I – myself don’t let my kids basically destroy my house like she does! They are the world to her – and vacation can’t ever be anywhere else. I think only here they can truly enjoy EVERY second! I’m so happy!
Frances is also like that with the kids – her house is “for the kids” and she is just loving and caring with the boys! As much as I would love to go to other family – and states or places I just can’t picture my kids being so limited to do things when my mom and my mother in law basically let them be! =) It’s too much of a joy!!!
It’s pouring out rain and my mom was supposed to be home like 2 hours ago. I understand the rain makes traffic terrible, and again – as much as she gets to me sometimes and as much as I’m enjoying being able to be online without worrying – I’m nervous she isn’t here yet!

Happy 2009!!!!

We had a nice party, it could only be better if Dan could be with us! Here in Brasil New Years is always a big party, everyone has fireworks - it's beautiful! We got just a few part of our family together (about 28 of us), less then usual but still we had a great time! I saw cousins that I haven't seing in 6 or 7 years! It was only my mom's side of the family, but still not all her siblings were there. The menu was awesome, we had so much food and deserts. We all had a blast!

* My mom cooked one of my favorite dishes: Past with pumpkin puree and almods! Yummm!

* Trying to get everyone in the picture!

* My dad & I - I love this man!

Curitiba's Zoo

It was so much fun! The kids were pretty excited - they absolutelly love the Zoo! It's a very hilly place and they walked most of the time (not Noah). After we drove all around this huge lake where there are boat races and saw a few more pretty things in Curitiba - places that I never being to even though I lived in CWB since I was like 9. (Moved to US when I was 21)

It was also so funny to see different animals then our Zoo in Cincy. I took a bunch of pictures and Noah was SO happy to see his friends from "Madagascar"

* Bulls

* Ostrages

* Noah, when he wasn't running away from us - was always trying to get a ride with someone

* Albine peacocks

* Giraffes!!!!!! =) Melmaaan! (Noah shouted)

* I don't think my kids ever saw the giraffe at the Cincy Zoo (Before it left - or after it was back - is it back?) They were very into them!

* The lion was very old

* An anta - I'm not even sure what's called in English!

Dears - many dears! LOL Can you believe it? I guess it's not that big of a deal - if you really think about it. We see a ton of animals in the USA that are "normal" here lik parrots and things like that... soooo we don't have dears crossing the roads in Brasil so I guess the Zoo it's the place to see them, right?

Benji with cousis Augusto & Victor

* My dad, cousins Will, Augusto, Victor and all the way in the back Tio Paulo + Tia Ro
